Greek food is simple and sun-filled: ripe tomatoes, olive oil, herbs, grilled fish and feta. Start with a spread of meze — tzatziki, dolmades, grilled octopus — meant to be shared.
Street food is excellent and cheap: souvlaki and gyros wrapped in warm pita. In the islands, seek out the catch of the day by the harbour.
Finish with honey-drenched baklava or thick yoghurt, and toast with ouzo or a crisp local white. Eat late, eat slowly, and let the meal become the evening.
